Ford has been using an amazing safety feature for the past few years, their patented inflatable seat belts, since its initial patent in 2008. Starting in their 2011 Ford Explorer and added into the 2013 Ford Flex, Lincoln MKT and MKZ, and the 2014 Ford Fusion. To continue this trend, Ford is inserting the inflatable seat belts in the new 2015 F-150 pick-up and plans to have it installed in many more future models now that they have a third generation patent currently pending.
But that’s not all the good news coming out of the new patent. Ford is now offering the original system to many different suppliers, their top competitors, and manufacturers of military, airplanes, helicopters, and even boats. The technology will be hosted by AutoHarvest, a nonprofit group, which will then be used by transportation manufacturers like NASA!
AutoHarvest cofounder David Cole said, “We are glad to be able to play a role in spreading this safety technology more broadly.” Chris Danowski, the director of technology commercialization for Ford Global Technologies, added “We are constantly looking at how to improve…our goal is not to withhold it, especially if it is related to safety.”

Thirty years have gone by and finally Ford brought back a turbo four. The 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost took one of its first test drives in Charlotte, NC earlier this month. The new Mustang is equipped with a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost four cylinder and will be placed in between the naturally aspirated 3.7-liter V6 and naturally aspirated 5.0- liter V8. The 2015 Ford Mustang has the best return on fuel economy of the three powerplants due to its all-aluminum engine that will have 305 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque.
Upon the launch of the 2015 Ford Mustang, a six gear manual and automatic transmission will be offered. The automatic transmission has been upgraded to include four different electronic modes; normal, sport, track and snow/wet. Although the 4 cylinder engine lacks the smoothness of a 6 or 8, it makes up for it with its smaller mass. The reduced weight allows the Mustang to be very nimble even throughout excessive maneuvering and could lead to being the best in the family. The new and improved 2015 Ford Mustangs will be on our lot and available soon (not soon enough in our eyes!) so come over and see us at Highway Ford if you are looking to add one of these to your own family!

Every vehicle requires a list of routine maintenance. We’re not talking about getting your oil changed or having your radiator flushed (don’t get us wrong, you still need to take care of those too!) but things even smaller than that. Like checking your windshield wiper fluid, replacing your windshield wipers, checking your tire pressure, and last but not least, checking your tire tread. Tire tread can be something many drivers forget to check, but with worn down tires can potentially cause some safety hazards. These can include loss of traction in bad weather (rain can be just as troublesome as snow with worn tires) which is dangerous and lowers gas mileage and increase chance of debris puncturing the tire while driving causing a blowout or flat tire.
But for those drivers who may be more forgetful than others, have no fear! Continental Tires is working on a new technology that will help drivers monitor their tread depth and will notify the driver when it’s time to pick up some more tires. Although this technology will be releasing to Europe first and isn’t expected to hit American markets for a few years, we’re always excited here at Highway Ford about any technology that helps keep our friends, family, and neighbors safe!

Long has it been since the History channel played only…well…history documentaries. The channel used to be filled with informational movies about World War II, the Civil War, historical battles on land, sea, and air, and of course historical leaders and conquerors. Several years ago, the history channel picked up some new reality TV shows including a pretty major fan favorite by the name of “American Pickers” which will be sporting the new 2015 Ford Transit!
The two main guys on the show have previously been rolling around in their Sprinter but made the change thanks to the new 2015 Ford Transit in part thanks to its superior balance between fuel economy and its cargo and towing capacity. It’s no surprise that as you’re driving around cross country hauling pounds of rust covered antiques, you want a vehicle you can rely on to get you there without breaking your bank at the same time! The 2015 Ford Transit gives you a 3.2 liter 5 cylinder diesel engine with 190 horsepower and 346 pounds of torque, and if that can’t handle the task you have at hand we’re not sure what will! It’s no surprise the boys are relying on a true Built Ford tough vehicle to get the job done, and if you have any heavy duty jobs where you’ll need a real truck for, we have plenty of heavy duty trucks available for test drives right here at Highway Ford!
