Ford to Place 2015 Mustang atop the Empire State Building

The 50th Anniversary of the iconic Ford Mustang is just a few short weeks away. And, Ford wants to celebrate in a big way. On April 16 and 17, if you go to the observation deck of the Empire State Building in New York City, you will see a 2015 Ford Mustang convertible, not way down below on the streets, but right next to you, on the deck.

“New York is one of the greatest cities in the world, and it’s the place where the Ford Mustang story began 50 years ago,” said Mark Fields, Ford chief operating officer, in a statement.

2015 Mustang atop Empire State uilding

Pretty soon there will be a new 2015 Mustang atop the Empire State Building where that 1965 one is.

Ford unveiled the Mustang for the first time at the 1964 New York World’s Fair on April 17. And, in 1965, Ford cut a Mustang into three pieces to fit it in the elevators of the Empire State Building and put it on display at the top.

Now, Ford is going to recreate the process to commemorate this significant anniversary. However, this time around, it will be an even tighter fit, since the new Mustang is seven inches longer and four inches wider.

“Like the team that did this in 1965, the current crew visited the Empire State Building before starting and took careful measurements of its new elevators and doors before cutting up the car,” said Dave Pericak, Mustang chief engineer, in a statement.

The Mustang will be on display for a total of 54 hours at the Empire State Building. If you’ll be in New York on April 16 or 17, be sure to stop by and take a look at this historic moment.

The Ricardo HyBoost Upgraded Ford Fusion

Are you an owner of a 2009 Ford Focus? Have you ever wanted more from it in terms of performance without sacrificing fuel efficiency? Jay Leno’s garage has just the thing for you. The Ricardo HyBoost.

As Jay demonstrates in the video, this is not your ordinary 2009 Ford Focus. The engine has been upgraded from a 2.0-liter, which is stock, to a 1.1-liter. We know what you’re thinking, shouldn’t that read downgraded? Well the answer is no, because the new engine is fed by both a supercharger and turbocharger. Those two additions provide an almost instantaneous effect, for noticeable torque improvement.

Personally, we wouldn’t expect anything less from the engineering minds at Ricardo. They are, after all, the same company involved in building the McLaren P1. For those of you who don’t know, the McLaren P1 is one of the fastest street-legal hybrid cars around.

While the upgraded Ricardo HyBoost version of the Ford Fusion, won’t accelerate from 0-60 mph in under 3 seconds, it will also not cost you over $1 million to buy. In fact the upgrades made to the Ford Fusion are about $1,100 according to an autoblog.com article.

You won’t be able to buy a Ricardo Hyboost For Fusion for yourself, but come see us at Highway Ford and we can help you get the parts you’ll need.

50 Years of Mustang: A Ford Celebration

The year was 1964, the day March 9. Ford Motor Company made automotive history when they unveiled a first of its kind muscle car – The Ford Mustang. The mustang was a new breed of automobile, one that was affordable, highly styled and built for sport/performance. In other words, Mustang was the original Pony car. Over the past 50 years of Mustang, a lot has changed but it has always been popular; to the tune of more than 9.2 million sold since 1964.

50 years of Mustang

The 2014 model is part of the way Ford is celebrating 50 years of Mustang

Although the Mustang revolutionized the American automotive industry when it first came off the assembly line on March 9, the media weren’t introduced until the New York World’s Fair on April 13. It took another four days from the media intro before Ford sold the car publicly. The dates of these events are according to Sam Abuelsamid, Mustang editor at Global Team Ford communications, which you can see in a USA Today article.

In what will be the 6th generation of the muscle car, the 2015 Mustang will partly commemorate the past 50 years of Mustang. It will have all the same features you’ve come to expect from Ford Mustangs as well as all the power and thrilling driving experience. The rest of commemoration will take part in three different locations across the United States. You can read about the events at Pony Drive, Charlotte Motor Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway on the official 50 years of Mustang page.

Another way you could celebrate, which we have to recommend as the best, is by getting yourself a great 2014 or 2015 Mustang from your Lake Charles area Ford dealer – Highway Ford.

Ford Teams Up With Blackberry on MyTouch Infotainment System

You may have heard that Ford was going a new direction with their new MyTouch in-car infotainment system. No longer will tech-giant Microsoft be the software supplier for Ford, as the American car company has decided to go with Blackberry and the QNX.

According to a Ford statement published by the Detroit Free Press “Ford works with a variety of partners and suppliers to develop and continuously improve our in-car connectivity systems for customers.”

The switch is partly being made in response to Consumer Reports’ annual auto-reliability survey in which, Ford ranked 26 out of 28. However this is just one survey and there are plenty of consumers who live MyTouch the way it is. While Ford will not officially “discuss details… or speculate on future products for competitive reasons” the switch will likely propel Ford up the ranks in the near future as the QNX system has already proved to be successful in some other car brands.

We’ll have to wait to see this change implemented in the new MyTouch infotainment system, but you can look forward to getting the latest offerings from Ford at Highway Ford.
